School trip to Farm School

7th May 2025

Today, we had the best time on a school trip to Farm School with Emma from the Vending Shed.

The children had the opportunity to join in with various activities, feed the chickens, have time to free play and have a tractor and trailer ride to feed the cows.

On arrival, we had a health and safety talk to discuss how to be safe around a working farm. We then moved on to an activity to see if we could find a ‘Red Tractor’ symbol on the different food packaging. The Red Tractor symbol means that it is a British product and passed around some honeycomb which was made on the farm. As we walked towards the tractor ready for our tractor and trailer ride, we fed the chickens – there were 6 chickens in total and one of them had just laid an egg!

To the children’s delight, we then moved on to our tractor and trailer ride through a field, to get to the field with the cows in. When the 27 cows made their way up to the trailer, we sprinkled food for them. We then headed back to Farm school – at high speed and bumpy ride!!

We then had the opportunity to make bird food to put on homemade feeders and watch how the mini mill made the wheat and barley into flour.

What a lovely morning had by all and we would like to give a very big thank you to Emma for this opportunity.
