When Caterpillars was formed in 2004 within the church grounds in Colyton, we set out with a clear vision and philosophy for our setting which is still present today. We want every child to grow as individuals, develop and explore their own ideas, express their opinions, learn through lots of play opportunities.
We follow the EYFS cirriculum and the principals of every child matters.
In Spring 2010 we are moving to our new building within the Reece Strawbridge Centre. This will allow us to increase our provision and offer lots of exciting opportunites for children 2-11 years olds within the community.
All our staff are highly motivated and expand their knowledge in child care through continuous training. We offer a choice of sessions over 5 days per week including our Lunch club. We also offer a shorter session for the younger two year olds to help them with the transition from Parent & Toddler to Pre-school. We also hold on Tuesday and Friday Mornings our Parent & Toddler group 'Ducklings', it is a great place to meet families and also familiarise with the Pre-school.

Breakfast, After school & Holiday ClubsWe open our doors at 8am Monday to Friday until 6pm 50 weeks a year; this means we can provide longer child care provision and link in with schools for before and after school clubs.
We cater for 2 to 11 years, which is a wide age range but by careful planning we can make it fun for all.
The older children design their own planning for each week, choosing activities and topics they are interested in:
These can be: Arts & Crafts, Jewellery making, football, hockey, cricket, parachute games, computer games, Homework opportunities, board games (such as Jenga, Monopoly, and Scrabble etc)
Every child attending these clubs will have their own scrap book to keep photos of activities they’ve done, stickers, pictures, football cards etc.
We will provide breakfast in the morning with cereal, fruit, toast and juice and in the afternoon healthy snacks such as soup, toast, crumpets, fruit etc. The older children will help make the snacks can come up with different idea’s.
Our play worker will oversee a lot of this provision and will be available at all times to chat about any concern you may have.
The basis of the planning will be based around the 5 outcomes of Every Child Matters:
Parents are always welcome to contribute ideas or offers of help.
We will ensure that your child is taken or collected from school either by taxi or walking bus, please contact us for further details.
